Before you choose
How do you choose a skid steer: radial or vertical, wheels or tracks?
Choose the skid steer by three figures: the rated operating capacity (ROC) your heaviest material needs, the lift path—radial if you dig and grade, vertical if you load trucks—and the undercarriage: wheels for firm ground, tracks for mud and slopes. Then check the hydraulic flow your attachments need. Horsepower alone decides nothing.
What people ask most
What is rated operating capacity (ROC)?
It's the weight the skid steer handles safely: on wheeled units it's usually 50% of the tipping load and on tracked units 35%. It's the number to compare across models.
Do I need high flow?
Only if you'll use demanding attachments: cold planer, trencher, flail cutter or large auger. For a bucket, forks and a small breaker, standard flow is enough.
Can I rent a skid steer?
Yes. RentaCentro, a group company, has Bobcat S18, S570 and S590 skid steers in its fleet. For a few months of use a year, renting usually beats buying.
