Short answer
Choose the skid steer by three figures: the rated operating capacity (ROC) your heaviest material needs, the lift path—radial if you dig and grade, vertical if you load trucks—and the undercarriage: wheels for firm ground, tracks for mud and slopes. Then check the hydraulic flow your attachments need. Horsepower alone decides nothing.
1. Rated operating capacity (ROC) comes first
ROC is the weight the skid steer lifts safely. On wheeled units it's usually 50% of the tipping load, and on tracked units, 35%. According to Bobcat's datasheets, the S70 has 362 kg of ROC and 724 kg of tipping load; the tracked T590, 953 kg and 2,722 kg.
Size it by the heaviest material you'll move every day—wet soil, aggregate, bagged material on pallets—not by the one-off case. A full bucket of dense material can exceed the ROC even if it looks small. Work at the limit and the rear goes light, traction drops and tires and brakes wear faster.
2. Radial or vertical: the key decision
Lift path defines the job. Radial raises the bucket in an arc and concentrates force at mid-height: it performs when digging, grading, pushing and working at ground level. Vertical raises straight up, gains reach at the top and delivers more capacity up high: it's the one for loading dump trucks, hoppers and stacking.
Bobcat builds near-twin pairs that show it. The S510 (radial) lifts 810 kg and the S530 (vertical) 869 kg on the same frame. The S630 (radial) reaches 1,040 kg and the S650 (vertical) 1,282 kg with the same 74 HP engine. Simple rule: if your day is loading trucks, vertical; if it's digging and grading, radial.

- S510 (radial): 810 kg
- S530 (vertical): 869 kg
- S630 (radial): 1,040 kg
- S650 (vertical): 1,282 kg

3. Wheels or tracks
The wheeled skid steer is faster on firm ground, costs less in undercarriage and moves better over concrete and asphalt. The compact track loader spreads its weight and works where wheels slip: mud, sand, soft ground, slopes and the rainy season. According to Bobcat, the T590 runs at 5.0 psi ground pressure and the T770 at 4.1 psi.
The downside of tracks is undercarriage upkeep and faster wear when turning on hard surfaces. If you alternate, ask about over-tire steel tracks: they're an attachment in Bobcat's catalog.

4. Hydraulic flow and attachments
A skid steer with one bucket delivers a fraction of what it can. Bobcat's catalog includes augers, sweepers, hydraulic breaker, cold planer, trencher, pallet forks, angle blade and backhoe, among others. With the Bob-Tach coupler, Bobcat says an attachment change takes less than a minute.
The most overlooked detail is flow. Cold planers, trenchers, flail cutters or large-diameter augers need high flow; on standard flow they run slow or underperform. According to Bobcat, the T770 delivers 87 l/min standard and 138 l/min high flow. List the year's attachments and confirm the flow before quoting.

5. Size, access and transport
Width defines where it fits and operating weight, which trailer moves it. According to Bobcat, the S70 is 914 mm wide and fits through a standard door: it works for warehouses, barns or interior remodeling. At the other end, the S770 weighs 4,162 kg and lifts 1,569 kg: there the skid steer replaces a small wheel loader on confined sites.
In between is the general-construction range. The S570—vertical, 944 kg ROC, 61 HP—is where the machine does almost everything reasonably well. The S590 adds power (66 HP) and 998 kg for demanding attachments.
What does your skid steer do most of the day?
- Digging, grading, landscaping → Radial lift
- Loading trucks and hoppers → Vertical lift
- Mud, sand or slopes → Tracks (T series)
- Interiors and narrow doors → Ultra-compact (S70)
- Planer, trencher or large auger → High flow
6. In Guatemala and Nicaragua: Komatsu SK820-5E0
Bobcat is offered in El Salvador and Panama. In Guatemala and Nicaragua, the group's skid steer is the Komatsu SK820-5E0: according to Komatsu's datasheet, 47.2 HP, 3,080 kg operating weight, 900 kg rated capacity and a 0.40 m³ bucket. It has PPC proportional-control joysticks, a tilting cab to check engine and hydraulics, and a universal coupler for sweepers, augers, forks and breakers.
With those figures it competes in the general-construction range. To choose it, apply the same criteria: heaviest material, attachments and where it will work.

7. Operator, warranty and backing
A good operator gets more from a skid steer than ten extra horsepower. The group's APMT Academy runs a skid-steer operator course. For backing, Bobcat states 24 months or 2,000 hours of standard warranty for skid steers and track loaders, and its Protection Plus plan extends it up to 5 years or 6,000 hours.
Always ask who stocks parts and has a workshop in your country: a machine down for a filter or a hose costs the workday.
Where to buy or rent a skid steer in Central America
Grupo ConstruMarket offers Bobcat skid steers in El Salvador and Panama, and the Komatsu SK820-5E0 in Guatemala (CMARKET) and Nicaragua, with parts and workshop or on-site service. Price depends on model, undercarriage, flow, attachments and payment method: request a quote with your application and an advisor will contact you during business hours. Bobcat equipment qualifies for machinery financing (credit or leasing, subject to approval).
If you need one for a short project, RentaCentro, a group company, has the Bobcat S18, S570 and S590 in its fleet.
- El Salvador (Bobcat): Zaragoza, Antiguo Cuscatlán and San Miguel.
- Panama (Bobcat): Panama City.
- Guatemala (Komatsu, CMARKET): Mixco, Río Hondo and Xela.
- Nicaragua (Komatsu): Managua.

Which country is your project in?
Common mistakes
Buying by horsepower
The S630 and S650 share the same engine and differ by 242 kg in capacity.
Radial to load trucks
Radial loses capacity up high; for loading, vertical performs better.
Ignoring flow
A high-flow attachment on a standard machine runs slow or overheats.
Wheels on soft ground
In mud a wheeled skid steer slips and tears up the ground; that's where tracks belong.
Working at the ROC limit
The rear goes light, traction drops and it becomes unstable.
Frequently asked questions
Which is better, radial or vertical skid steer?
It depends on the job. Radial for digging, grading and ground-level work; vertical for loading trucks, hoppers and stacking high. If you do everything, a mid-size vertical such as the Bobcat S570 is the most balanced choice.
What is rated operating capacity (ROC)?
It's the weight the skid steer handles safely: on wheeled units it's usually 50% of the tipping load and on tracked units 35%. It's the number to compare across models.
How much does a Bobcat skid steer cost in El Salvador?
There's no single price: it depends on model, wheels or tracks, flow, attachments, payment method and what the quote includes. Grupo ConstruMarket quotes it individually from Zaragoza, Antiguo Cuscatlán and San Miguel.
Where can I buy a skid steer in Guatemala?
At CMARKET, part of Grupo ConstruMarket, which offers the Komatsu SK820-5E0 from its Mixco, Río Hondo and Xela branches, with the group's parts and workshop.
Do I need high flow?
Only if you'll use demanding attachments: cold planer, trencher, flail cutter or large auger. For a bucket, forks and a small breaker, standard flow is enough.
Can I rent a skid steer?
Yes. RentaCentro, a group company, has Bobcat S18, S570 and S590 skid steers in its fleet. For a few months of use a year, renting usually beats buying.
