Indigo-dyed textiles
San Sebastián, San Vicente
Treadle loom and natural dye
Indigo blue isn't painted on: it's dipped, oxidised in the air and dipped again.
This is a sample profile. Here goes the story of a textile workshop once we approve it: how many generations it has been weaving, how it prepares the dye and what it means for the workshop that its work lives next to the store's furniture. The maker explains, in their own words and with their permission, how the warp is set on the loom, why the blue deepens with every dip and what sets a hand-dyed piece apart from a printed one. It closes with the care the fabric needs: wash cold, dry in the shade and skip the bleach so the colour stays. That is between one hundred and one hundred and fifty words, read standing in front of the piece after scanning the code on the label and before deciding to take it home.
